Then you need to get Topps Draft Picks and Prospects. Featuring all the best rookies from the 2007 Draft, including Calvin Johnson, Brady Quinn, Jamarcus Russell, and Adrian Peterson, collectors can find both regular and chrome versions of their favorite rookies and veterans. With 100 veterans and 55 rookies, collectors will find, on average, one draft pick and one chrome parallel per pack. And eventually, collectors should find two game-used, one autograph and one game used, or one autographed relic and one game-used card in their box. 2007 Topps Draft Picks and Prospects Base Set Overview In a base set that differs greatly from the 2006 version, the cards feature a nice brown/bronze/copper border to frame the above-average photography that Topps always produces. The team names are printed in black across a silver background with the player names right below in white across a black background. The base set checklist features all the names you know: Peyton Manning, LaDainian Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, Marvin Harrison, Tom Brady, and more. The biggest problem could be that the dark borders may be susceptible to chipping if not properly stored. So be sure to get these into sleeves or pages as soon as you are able to in order to keep them in good shape. 2007 Topps Draft Picks and Prospects Rookie Overview Every pack of DPP should garner one 2007 Draft Pick in their college uniform. Now you may like this or you may not, but it’s what the product gives us. But when these players are famous NFL stars years down the road, new collectors may want something of them in a college uniform and this is the perfect set to get that from. The design is identical to the veteran base cards except the words “2007 Draft Pick” which substitute for the team name and the words “Rookie Card” above that. One of the biggest drawbacks with DPP is that it is released so early that team information and draft selection info are both omitted from all draft picks. But a positive is that it gets you cards of these rookies before anyone else does. 2007 Topps Draft Picks and Prospects Parallel Set Overview Each pack of DPP will get you one chrome parallel card. These come in a variety of colors and each color has a refractor version. This parallels the entire checklist so you can get a stud rookie or you could get Hank Baskett. 2007 Topps Draft Picks and Prospects Insert Set Overview There is only one regular insert set to be excited about for DPP. It is the Class of 2006 set that features the best from the 2006 Draft Class. The set was designed like the 2006 DPP set and was paralleled in chrome and also autographed. 2007 Topps Draft Picks and Prospects Relic/Autograph Overview The two of these cards you should get in your box can come from a variety of insert sets and they may even be a rarer parallel version. Jerseys come from the Senior Standouts and Upperclassmen sets. Autos can be found on Senior Standouts, All-Star Alumni, Class Marks, and Class of 2006 sets. There are also combination relic/autos and dual autos. 2007 Topps Draft Picks and Prospects Final Rating 2007 Topps Draft Picks and Prospects gives collectors of all kinds an opportunity to find something they want. For set builders, you should get about half the set including 24 of the 55 rookies. And the affordability of boxes makes buying two a smart buy for the set collector. And you should be able to find the remaining base cards you need soon thereafter on a site like TCN. For the rookie collectors out there, obviously you get 24 rookies and the chance for chrome and other inserts of rookies. A box or two of these is a huge investment for you guys. If you chase game-used and autos this is a little less of an appealing product, but there are still guarantees and the chance to get a really good card of a future Hall of Famer. Because of all this appeal, DPP is one of the year’s highest rated products. But since the appeal for game-used and autos is weak, there is no choice but to give Topps DPP just a bit less than perfect.
